Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and houseplants, along with soil, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries usually grow part of their own stock and carry varieties suited to the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Plant shops focus on houseplants, succulents and orchids, often with repotting help. Greenhouses and growers sell seedlings and bedding plants in spring, and many offer wholesale prices to landscapers. Landscape designers plan planting beds, patios and irrigation, and some garden centers offer design and installation services as well.

Winston-Salem is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Winston-Salem follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

We stopped by while waiting for a family member’s appointment. It was a very hot day, and we had our two senior dogs with us, one of whom had just undergone major surgery. My husband confirmed with the staff that dogs were welcome before we entered. What disappointed me was the staff’s attitude. Although dogs were allowed, we were made to feel unwelcome. Our dog is friendly enough to serve as a therapy dog, yet we were treated with obvious indifference, as if our presence was an inconvenience. After we left, my husband also told me about his unpleasant shopping experience the week before over a pricing mistake. Had I known, I would have gladly bought the same plant elsewhere for less. We won’t be returning.

I stopped by for the first time and was inquiring about plants for the catio. I explained all of the things (sunlight and when, etc) and was recommended a plant, which I purchased. In less than 24 hours, and following their instructions, it suffered a major setback. I have since done my homework and found out that it needs more shade and cannot take this heat at all. $36 for one plant that suffered terribly in the first 24 hours = not coming back for me. Was going to buy a water feature from there for the cats, too, but have found a much cheaper experience. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ because my mother absolutely adored this shop - may she RIP and help this plant from heaven! 🪴 Otherwise, it's a ⭐️ type of experience for me. YMMV!

Needed a birthday gift for my mom and House of Plants went above and beyond. They put together a beautiful potted arrangement with an orchid, and even took some small tomato plants and wrapped them up as a thoughtful addition. The extra care and creativity in the presentation made it feel really special. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique, personalized plant gift!

I’m giving them four stars because they are a cute shop. Winston doesn’t have many fancy plant shops of I’d probably give them a three. I’m really into rare exotic imported plants. For that I’d probably give them a 3⭐️ but for the average plant person 4 or 5⭐️’s. Quaint shop with adorable and unique gift ideas. Great place in general.

House of Plants is such a great spot—every time I go in, the staff is genuinely kind and happy to answer any questions. They make it easy to learn and feel confident about what you’re buying. It’s also hands down the best place to shop for orchids—their selection is always beautiful, and I’ve heard they get new ones in every other Friday. Definitely a go-to if you love plants or are just getting started!
